Subject: my dad knew sheldon leonard..

Subject: Chester Morris and gang
Subject: not a waste of time
I enjoyed the movie very much. Well written well acted and I didnt take a nap
Subject: A Pine-Thomas Winner
A great little (compact) B, with top billed Chester Morris as the good-bad buy and Russ Hayden as his cop friend in pre-World War I New York City. This little film has a little bit of everything in it and it's blended well by director Frank McDonald and his very large cast of character actors. No big surprises beyond casting. Pine-Thomas was the B unit of Paramount Pictures and the quality shows through. James Edward Grant later to write several John Wayne productions. A good early effort. If you think a little bit, you'll understand how they got around some "Hays Office" rules. Use your imagination. Russ Hayden never made another film of this type. Chester Morris on the other hand made a career of them. Go figure. Enjoy.
Subject: Sterling Heyden can act
He's more than just Hoppy's pal. He is the lead. Heyden had a long career. Surprised more people do not know his work.
Subject: Good stuff
What a good little movie.
How they got so many top grade actors I don't know. But even the writing is good.
